Ode to Polymer.

I’ve been developing quite the addiction to polymer clays. Alright, so that sounds horrible and isn’t entirely true… but it’s more than just a habit.

And the thing about polymer clay.. is that you can never just have one colour. And you can definitely never have less than three colours open, ready, waiting.. And as soon as you open one color, you want another, you need a black or a cream or a tint or a shine… to blend & mix & marble & do all the fun things that polymer can.

But it’s never enough just to open the package; the clay must be conditioned: worked, softened, released. After a couple rounds it gets soft enough, and after a couple more it’s so smooth that it combines almost sticky when mixed with another….

And before you know it, it’s been four or five hours, and the skin on your fingers is rough and raw from pulling, twisting, kneading. Half a litre (kidding) of that creepy-pumice-orange soap later and I’m still just barely feeling human. And my hands feel horrible. And as for my manicure? Effectively ruined; I never remember that nailpolish does not prefer polymer.

My kitchen smells like slightly-cooked-polymer & I have three full plates of color & shape &
I’m already wishing I had more.

In other, unrelated news: look for an introduction to polymer art necklaces in the next week or so.

More Necklaces Listed, More To Come….

Just got a whole whack of necklaces listed.

Watch out in the coming weeks for:
– Polymer Clay Hairsticks
– Larger Gauge Polymer Clay Earrings
– More Listings In General. Necklaces, in particular! Get excited 😉

And finally, sleep.

55 items listed — that’s a whole heap of typing. I’m probably about a third done, in terms of listing. At least I’m finished this batch of pictures.. that’s a whole lot of progress!

Tomorrow (today) I’m locking myself in the bedroom if I have to to get another big batch of these up. This is such a learning experience and already my mind is flying with variations of ideas and different things I can do. I have a package with a whole lot of sterling wire at the post office, waiting for pick-up sometime today, and let me tell you I’m already aching to get back into the studio.

Mr. Bisteries has been busy finishing the grouting for the tile & painting the livingroom. I sit on the couch and finger-dance and take pictures and admire all the shiny things. I can’t really complain. 🙂

But now, sleep. I think I’ve definitely earned it 🙂

Workworkworkworkwork, etc.

…well, not really. Although I do have a binder that no longer closes properly because it’s so full, and I didn’t have that a month ago, so I’m doing something.

Business cards have arrived. I’m not even sure how to spell business, and that should tell you how far out of my territory I am with this ‘professional’ thing. But I think that with enough heart & a lot of creativity I might just be able to get this off the ground.

Here’s hoping, anyway.

My nook now has walls, and electrical lines, and all it needs now is the rest of the walls, paint, and shelves. Then it’s time to move in and, make-make-make-make. I am bursting at the seams quite literally with ideas and I can’t wait to show you.

Until then,

Brilll. ps. Grand Opening on the 12th! (Bumped back from the 9th because I like wednesdays better than sundays 😉

..More supply excitement..

I’ve also stumbled across the notorious metal clays..  I have Copprclay and the silver art clay and I’m ready to experiment. Unfortunately, my work area won’t be ready for me until about a week or so, so I have to play the never-ending waiting game. Again; still. But it’s familar, so I’m okay with it.

In the meantime I decorare my notebooks with ideas and get more excited.

This week I’m planning on finishing up all this webworkstuff.. mainly linking all my sites together and getting my links and pages finished. Again. It feels neverending, but that might be becasue I’m doing it all myself. That’s okay though, it’s kinda exciting.

I have timidly made a few practice pieces, to get my fingertips wet… and because I can’t be too patient when I’m getting mail 3x’s a day! I am swimming in beads and creative excitement. Yum.

My goal right now is to finish up this website shit and be ready to start making stuff in the next couple days. I’m aiming for August as my grand opening.. Give me a couple days.  Patience, it will be worth it, you guys know!

Much love,

Nyners.
